Sept. 5, 2025 – Rihanna Kate B. Caguioa is a 17-year old student from the Summer Capital who has been into Taekwondo since Grade 1.
Rihanna’s experience in the field was influenced by her brother who impressed her a lot in her early years of life with his skills and achievements.
“My brother encouraged me to do Taekwondo,” Rihanna said as she was surprised at how much her brother played and at how many medals he won.
Her workout starts by stretching and massaging her body lightly in order to warm up her muscles.
Rihanna is very mindful of her professional career and sports with her personally set-up program that allows her to complete her school assignment on time without neglecting the training.
When one looks back on her Taekwondo journey, one of the most memorable is Rihanna’s first gold medal, a feat that was once impossible to achieve but she said that although it was hard to obtain, she never gave up.
Rihanna had her struggles, one of which would be maintaining weight prior to competitions.
She said that she never had an easy time making the weight before the event and making the necessary reductions on game day. Her solution? Be optimistic, pray and do her best.
Rihanna gets her strength from family, friends as well as personal pursuits. “They encourage me and push me to continue and strive to have a rewarding future.”
Although Taekwondo is dear to her heart, her main desire is to be a pilot, a job which she believes will assist her to support her family.
Rihanna’s words to other young people: “Never give yourself a negative thought however complicated your situation might be. You are able to correct the things that you are not good at especially your skills.”**John Batario/PIO Baguio intern/gabykeith
