BAGUIO CITY – – The Department of Health and National Nutrition Council–Cordillera led the recognition of outstanding partners in nutrition program implementation for 2016 and called for continuing partnership to ensure better health and nutrition for all Cordillerans especially the children.
Leading the awardees during the Regional Nutrition Awarding ceremony at Hotel Supreme last October 19 was the municipality of Tublay in Benguet with the Regional Green Banner Award.
Other provincial level Green Banner awardees were the municipalities of Hungduan for Ifugao and Balbalan for Kalinga.
The Green Banner award is given to a municipality, city or province with the most outstanding implementation of nutrition programs.
Three LGUs namely the municipality of Alfonso Lista in Ifugao, the City Government of Baguio and the Provincial LGU of Benguet were awarded the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winners in Nutrition or CROWN.
The CROWN is given to a winner of the Green Banner Award for three consecutive years and qualifies the LGU for the national tilt.
For the region’s outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Imelda Dela Cruz Dagupon of Brgy. Imelda Village, Baguio City got the top plum, followed by Glenda Kiasao of Brgy. Little Tadian in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Oliva Capsula of Brgy.Paoay, Atok, Benguet and Elsie Dawangon of Brgy.Maling, Balbalan, Kalinga.
DOH OIC Asst. Secretary for North Luzon Cluster Dr. Myrna Cabotaje assisted by DOH –Cordillera Regional Director Lakshmi Legaspi and NNC Regional Nutrition program Coordinator Rita Papey and other Regional Nutrition Council member agency officials handed the plaques of recognition to individual and LGU awardees.
Cabotaje, in her keynote message, said the event is a living testimony of the health department’s battle cry of “All for Health, Towards Health for All a Reality”, and shows the awardees’ commitment in working to improve the health and nutritional status of people in their respective communities.
Cabotaje also called for continuing united action from all sectors of society in bringing a better health and nutrition status particularly in preventing malnutrition among the people especially the children and for the successful implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action on Nutrition (PPAN) 2017 – 2022.
