BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — A total of 525 Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) workers of the Baguio City government will be under the social security coverage of the Social Security System (SSS).
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Rolando Macasaet and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the memorandum of agreement signing for the KaSSSanga Collect Program (KCP) at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center on August 20, 2024.
The SSS KCP program aims to register COs and JOs workers of the national government agencies, local government units, state universities and colleges and local water districts, as self-employed workers and will be entitled to various social security benefits.
Under the MOA, the City Government of Baguio will encourage and assist its COS and JO workers who are not coverable by the Government Service Insurance System Law for social services coverage thru registration as self-employed members of SSS.
The Baguio LGU will also facilitate the automatic salary deduction of the monthly SS and Employees’ Compensation contributions of its COS and JO workers and remit it to SSS.
For SSS, it will conduct on-site registration of qualified COS and JO workers, assign an account officer to manage the LGU Baguio account and provide free seminars or information activities on the benefits, loan privileges and other SSS programs.
Macasaet expressed gratitude to the Baguio City LGU under the leadership of Mayor Magalong for the partnership, as it is the SSS’s goal to ensure social security coverage to around 1 million COs and JO workers nationwide.
Macasaet also shared his goal of bringing SSS coverage to all the barangay officials in the country, so that when they reach the retirement age of 60, they will have a pension to support them.
Magalong also expressed gratitude to Macasaet and the SSS for their commitment to bring SSS programs and services to the people, which is very important to Baguio with its high employment rate and for being a center of commerce. **CCD, PIA-CAR
