As our first semester is starting to wrap up, the prospect of entering college creeps closer and closer. A few more months and the faces around me will change and the environment will be different. I’m not sure whether to be excited or nervous, instead mixed emotions are felt. But I imagine I am much more nervous about turning the next page in my life. To seemingly move on and start over can be a huge burden on our physical and mental health.
And it is during these times that I believe we must look back on our lives. To see the experiences and the people that have helped us get to our current place is motivating. And with our anchor that keeps us from straying in our paths, our family, we are free to aim high. Regrets accumulated from the past encourage us to make the best out of the present.
Though we have always moved forward in life, we have always done so with company. Therefore, going back to our past is not an act of cowardice. Should we resolve to resist what life throws at us, then going back to our family is not wrong. To properly cherish what we earned or learned, it’s always better to know where you came from. From the lessons we learned, and the successes we earned, both can greatly help us move forward.
Going to the next chapter of our lives is inevitable, it is something we can’t stop. Whether we keep up or get left behind is our choice. Going back to the past to find resolve is not wrong, but too much time spent on that can kill our ambitions.
When we mistreat our family’s love, we get spoiled, we trade in possible success for comfort. Our past failures can be like chains holding us back. But as we grow older, we begin to see the future not as a hostile place, instead an opportunity.
Failure and frustration will surely await us down the road, as they have awaited us in the present when we were in the past. And in the present time of my life, I have gained several memories. Moments of life which cannot be bought. It is something unique to all of us. These events can be our first time riding a bike, family bonding, etc. These times of our lives are the gifts for enduring hardships. More memories surely exist in the future, better and bigger moments.
Failure and success are something we have to live with. But only when we have courage can we even have the opportunity to win or lose. To be content is one’s own choice, but along with it will surely come regret. But sometimes, it is guilt which gives us courage to live life with no regrets. And when all is said and done, our lives would be like a book. A journal filled with embarrassing, amazing, and beautiful moments. A story worth telling our children in the future.
