BAGUIO CITY- Religious, sports, cultural and special events take centerstage for the Summer Vacation (SumVac) in Baguio activities for the next two weeks.
Activities for the Holy Week have started at the different churches up to cantatas and early Easter morning masses on April 21; while Lucky Summer Visitor activities start on April 18 Holy Thursday. Several first time visitors to the city are chosen for a four-day red carpet treatment, visits to tourist spots and freebies within the Baguio-Benguet area. Going on for many years now, the LSV is sponsored by the local government units, private sponsors and the Department of Tourism-CAR.
For sports aficionados, following the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) games in different schools are the Guerilla Race Up North Baguio Run in memory of the late Lt. Col Dennis Bumanlag at Camp John Hay; the Northern Trends Ultrabound fun run at Burnham Park; kick-boxing; and football in various venues.
On April 6-13 is “Epiko,”an original musical at the Saint Louis University Center for Culture and Arts (SLU-CCA), and on April 28 and 29 at the same venue is the SLU Dance Troupe concert followed by an orchestra concert at a later date.
On April 8-14 is Mangan Taku!, a Cordillera Food Fair which happens at the Rose Garden, Burnham Park. According to City Tourism Officer Engr. Alec Mapalo, indigenous-infused gourmet cuisine is showcased, in coordination with the academe. A first creative gastronomy, this is a unique, local and indigenous food experience, he added.
This Sunday, April 7, an invitational cosplay event happens at SM Baguio.
Araw ng Kagitingan commemoration is on April 9 at the Veterans’ Park, Harrison Road where several remaining World War II veterans are honored. Wreaths and flowers are offered by families and city officials, and the military traditional 21-gun salute is done.
On April 13 and 14, a Baguio Craft Fair is done at Yangco Road, while a summer creatives fair happens at the Dominican Heritage Hill on April 13 up to June 2.
On April 23, the summer arts and crafts workshop is hosted by the Forrest House Assessment and Training Center.
Other events to look forward to is the Chalk Arts Festival.
