CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) — The Tabuk Multipurpose Cooperative (TAMPCO), a grassroots cooperative, is the third “billionaire” cooperative in the region.
As of 2021, TAMPCO has an aggregate asset of P2, 371,371,261.00 that grew by 17 percent from previous year’s P2, 024,063,158.00.
In the Cordillera region, TAMPCO is third in terms of assets after Benguet Electric Cooperative with P4,302,646,855.00 and Benguet State University Community Multi-purpose Cooperative with P2,696,364,599.00.
Started by a small group in Tabuk some 40 years back, TAMPCO has now about 30,000 registered members from various places even outside the province.
Operating primarily under a credit service, the cooperative has expanded its operation to inns, gas retail, funeral care, water-refilling and other services.
Because of the growing service area, branches were opened outside Tabuk City.
Ryan Jose of the City Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Office attributed the growth of the cooperative to its functional management structure.
TAMPCO’s story used to highlight the city’s Cooperative Month celebration.
Other cooperatives in the region with billion assets are Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative (P2,276,189,728.00), Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees MPC (P2,060,604,619.00), Lagawe Multipurpose Development Cooperative (P1,779,875,880.00), Treasure Link Cooperative Society (P1,410,027,064.00), Lamut Grassroots Savings and Development Cooperative (P1,016,663,607.00) and Bokod Sulphur Spring MPC (P1,016,126,598.00). **JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga
