TABUK CITY, Kalinga – This city through its Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) has joined forces with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for the implementation of the latter’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD project.
The program calls for the hiring on 10-day basis of displaced as well as disadvantaged members of the community to rehabilitate the roads and canals of their respective barangays, Labor and Employment Officer I Francis Biag of the PESO informed.
The benefiaries receive a daily wage of P290.00.
According to Public Employment and Services Officer Loyda Saboy, the TUPAD project is not just for displaced and disadvantaged members of the community but also for the drug surrenderees as well.
Saboy added that residents of barangays covered by the CULASA, BABAGO SA GUINAMMA program of the LGU and victims of the super typhoon Lawin could also avail of the program.
CULASA, BABAGO SA GUINAMMA stands for Cudal, Laya West, San Juan, Bantay, Bado Dangwa, Gobgob, San Julian, Guilayon, Nambukayan and Magnao, the 10 poorest barangays of the city.
The program which involves all goverment agencies with poverty alleviation programs intends to reduce the poverty in the barangays by three percent a year.
The TUPAD project in the city is funded by the the DOLE in the amount of P10.2 M and has 3, 545 beneficiaries from all over the city.
Biag stated that the beneficiaries pay P50.00 for their insurance but the benefits would be for over a year even after the TUPAD project is over. The project started last September 6, 2017 city wide and will last for 10 days except Saturdays and Sundays.**By Edward Joseph Gacuya
