BAGUIO CITY – The city’s athletes have once again displayed their dominance in the recently concluded Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) in Abra by garnering a lion’s share of medals during the week-long competition.
In the official and final tally, Team Baguio won a whopping 222 gold, 102 silver and 61 bronze medals for the overall championship. Coming in distant second is Benguet with 38 gold, 66 silver and 82 bronze medals while Ifugao is third with 36 gold, 55 silver and 60 bronze medals.
Taking fourth place is the team from host Abra with 23 gold, 62 silver and 65 bronze medals; Apayao is fifth with 22 gold, 41 silver and 71 bronze medals; Kalinga-Tabuk city got 16 gold, 22 silver and 49 bronze medals for the sixth spot while Mtn. Province came in seventh place with 13 gold, 21 silver and 49 bronze medals.
An elated Mayor Mauricio Domogan welcomed the news and lauded the accomplishments of the Summer Capital’s athletes and coaches who not only brought honor to themselves and their families but the entire City of Baguio as well.
He also congratulated Abra’s officialdom for the successful and peaceful conduct of the annual regional athletic competitions.
Domogan stressed that every athlete should consider themselves winners for competing and giving their best in the games. He added that they should also imbibe the spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship and fair play that the CARAA meet engenders.**gaby keith
