The fun activities that I could remember from the early days of elementary school, apart from those in PE, was always the part where teachers would ask us what we want to be in the future. A program would then be held some time later, and everyone wears the uniform of their would-be professions. It was one of the first moments that I was forced to look beyond just tomorrow. And I saw how different everyone’s convictions were in their goal. Some were sure and determined, despite their young age. The others, like me, were still unsure and just went with what their parents or teachers wanted them to be. Regardless of how clear what each student saw in their futures, everyone had fun seeing a glimpse of what they could be after school.
Years later and most of us stand just a few steps before the “life” after school. Most are on the verge of graduating while others went a different route. Though, no matter the route each student has taken, no one got to where they are now without a few issues and scars.
The goal post that we have set when we were younger may have changed and the conviction within us may have been unstable as a wave sometimes, a college student with just a year before graduating must face whatever the future they have created. Hesitation at this point is pointless.
Even if we get cold feet, a helpful reminder is all that we have gone through to get to this point. Trust in what we have built over the decades and the future is open for conquest. Though we will most likely forget a lot of what our teachers kept on yammering about in the past, it can be helpful that we remember what we felt when we reminisced as elementary students of what our future held.
What could be worse than to turn away from what you have been working so hard towards, what you truly desire. In the words of a certain drug dealer in Scarface, “You don’t have the guts to be what you want to be”. The future may be uncertain, but the kind of person we want to be is as solid as cement. Be what you want to be, trust in all your past trials and tribulations that they have prepared you to grab ahold of your ambitions. After all the hard work a person has gone through, he is deserving of whatever lays in front. **
