Barangay Napua in Sabangan, Mtn. Province is one of the host barangays of Hedcor Sabangan. It is on the border of the Municipality of Bauko where the diversion weir of Hedcor Sabangan run-of-river hydroelectric power plant is located. About threee kilometers from the highway, one could view there the expanse of farmlands tilled by villagers since time immemorial.
During the construction of the 14MW Sabangan hydro plant, a 3.5 kilometer road was opened connecting the existing road in Sitio Libo to Sitio Coga-ongan and Sitio Duskit.
Farmers growing upland rice and highland vegetables are now benefiting from the smooth transport of their produce which made carrying these by foot has become a thing of the past.
Gone were the days when the farmers would start trekking the man-made path early at dawn to go and harvest their crops. After hours and hours of reaping wombok, cabbage or rice grains, their battle with the pathways starts again– but this time it would be more challenging with the loads they had to carry.
From Sitio Duskit, the farmers would carry their sacks of vegetables or rice grains going to Sitio Coga-ongan. By this time, dusk would begin to eat away the light guiding them. They had to spend the night wherever total darkness finds them to rest their tired bodies and get enough strength to continue the journey going to Sitio Libo on the next daybreak. From there a truck would be waiting to transport their loads to the market. Their hardships doubled during the rainy season as the path becomes slippery and the raging Chico River they had to cross becomes dangerous.
Now with the newly opened road, transporting their produce has become relatively easy.**
