Just like that, a little over 2 months after new year, and exams are already here. With how long January felt, I underestimated just how fast time moved forward. I’m always surprised when exams are nearby. I could only remember trying to adjust to school life back in January and here we are. With the many events and happenings in the school and city, I suspect time will only have more cover to move quickly again.
There is really no point in rushing each day or trying to wish for holidays to come faster. Everyone is already busy so early in the new year, we won’t suspect the many days go by.
Along these fleeting days are memories that are slippery against the numerous weeks and months they can be easily lost and taken for granted.
I was also an ardent supporter for the holidays to arrive just a little bit faster. Back in the day, January could have only just arrived and I’m already wishing for Christmas to come back. Waking up on Monday meant craving for a Friday already.
Overtime, I also learned to appreciate what’s in the middle. I only saw them before as indicators that Friday and the holidays are nearby. They were checkpoints leading to the promised land. But these days that I once saw as dull and boring, with a bit of effort and courage, could be just as memorable and fun as Fridays.
A person can craft a day to go how they want it to. Though not everyone has the privilege to do that. An entire set of disadvantages is laid upon millions of people that they do not live their own lives, but make do with the little amount of life allowed by these curses.
Not every student is able to focus on their studies, some live too far to have time to study, some must focus on their jobs to support their studies and some are too overwhelmed by repetitive subjects. They say a student only has one job, to study, but that is rarely the case.
When we do eventually graduate, like others who have found great opportunities abroad, we must also try to do our part in bettering those behind us. Fight for bettering the path that all the young ones must walk through someday.
We are all Filipinos, when all is said and done, we have no one else to rely on to improve the homes and state of Filipinos. Filipinos must be the ones to change the Philippines. **
