TINGLAYAN, Kalinga (PIA) – This municipality was awarded for the most number of gongs and “banga” or pot among local government units in the “Awong chi Gangsa, Agtu’n chi Banga” (Call of a Thousand Gongs, Dance of a Thousand Pots) last February 15 that put Kalinga in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The “Awong chi Gangsa, Agtu’n chi Banga” which highlighted the 28th Kalinga Foundation Anniversary and 4th Bodong Festival was participated by 3,440 male gong players and 4,681 female “banga” dancers capturing the world record for the “Largest Gong Ensemble” and “Largest Pot Dance”, respectively.
Gov. James S. Edduba handed the P600,000 check as cash incentive together with other tokens and certificate to municipal officials led by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab during the simple awards ceremony at the provincial capitol recently.
Gumilab expressed his people’s support to similar events promoting the province’s cultural heritage. He said the cash incentive would go to programs on cultural development of the municipality. **JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga
