TINGLAYAN, Kalinga — This municipality pushes for project “Funsi”, a research endeavor aimed to write the history of the various tribes here for the next generations.
“Funsi” is a local term which means to uncover or unearth.
The Municipal Culture and the Arts Council saw the need to come out with a historical document of the people and Tinglayan in order for the next generation to have a glimpse of their rich cultural heritage, values, way of life and traditions. Identified researchers, and the academe agreed to write the history of the people of Tinglayan.
“As time elapses, these original oral accounts would naturally be lost, revised or forgotten”, the Council averred.
Aside from writing the history, culture and arts of the people, this project also aims to rectify “misrelated and misstated” accounts of the people penned by foreign authors.
Grail Lawagan of the St. Louis College of Bulanao implored the researchers to be zealous and truthful in their findings, keeping the novelty of the project’s goal. Lawagan is part of the research team.
She said the “Funsi” Project team will focus their first step to “Funsiyan”, uncover and unearth, the origin of the Tinglayan people and the toponym of each tribe.
Mayor Sacrament Gumilab assures support of the local government unit to the special project.
He encouraged the reseatch team saying, “If foreigners and outside authors are able to write our history, more so with us, natives of this place. With the support of the municipal government, we can establish a complete tome of Tinglayan’s legacy”. **JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga with reports from Tinglayan Municipal Culture and the Arts Council
