TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Tabuk City LGU through its tourism office organized the city’s first tourism audio visual presentation (AVP) contest on October 27 as one of the activities during the city’s World Tourism Day celebration.
City Tourism Officer Arlene Ethel Odiem said that the contest aimed to foster among students awareness of the social, cultural, political and economic importance of tourism.
The Saint Louis College of Bulanao (SLCB) won first prize of P10,000.00 cash, Kalinga Colleges of Sciences and Technology (KCST) the second prize of P8,000.00 cash and Saint Tonis College (STC) the third prize of P6,000.00.
Consolation prizes of P3,000.00 each was given to the other participants, namely, International School of Asia and the Pacific- Kalinga (ISAP-K) and Cordillera A+ Computer Technology (C A+ CT).
Odiem said that the contest which was exclusively for tertiary schools showcased original tourism video teasers featuring the tourist spots, products, events, history and culture in the city.
“The AVP should be original, unpublished and should run for not more than seven minutes using video making software applications such as Movie Maker, Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premiere, After Effects or Sony Vegas,” Odiem said.
The participants were given six weeks to work on their videos. They were required to caption or voice over every tourist attraction or indigenous practice in the city they documented.
Odiem also said that while the outputs were commendable, the videos still needed enhancement and improvement so that in the next competition, organizers will select the winning copy to serve as the official tourism video of the LGU.
The video will be burned in CDs and distributed to schools, offices or even shown at public places such as in terminals or could also be a souvenir item for guests and visitors, Odiem said.
“The videos were carefully evaluated based on the objective of the competition and the theme of the UN World Tourism Day,” Odiem pointed out.
This year’s World Tourism Day theme was “Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development.”
Odiem also disclosed that same competition will be opened for secondary schools next year.
