SAGADA, Mtn. Prov.– A local tourist felt dizzy and fainted inside the Lumiang Cave located at Barangay Ambasing, Sagada, Mountain Province on Good Friday and was rescued by personnel of Sagada Municipal Police Station led by Police Senior Inspector Domingo Gambican, chief of police of Sagada, together with MDRRMO personnel and from the Tour Guides Rescue Group.
Police report identified the tourist as Mary Grace De la Cruz, 37 years old, married and a resident of Imus, Cavite.
Initial inquiry by the police disclosed that on April 13, 2016 at about 6:30 PM, De la Cruz together with her 12 companions from Imus, Cavite arrived in Sagada and booked at Kenlibed Lodge, Dagdag, Sagada.
On Good Friday at around 10:30 AM, the group took the services of two tour guides for a cave tour starting from Lumiang Cave to Sumaguing Cave, both situated at Ambasing.
Upon reaching near the middle of the cave, De la Cruz complained that she can no longer walk and suddenly felt dizzy and fainted that prompted the tour guides to return outside the cave and call for assistance.
At around 1:20 PM of Good Friday, responders successfully rescued De la Cruz and immediately rushed her to St. Theodore’s Hospital in Sagada for medical treatment.
As per hospital records, she suffered from hyperventilation syndrome and was discharged from the hospital at around 2:35 PM of the same day according to the report.
Gambican stated in an interview on Holy Saturday with this writer that this is the only incident reported to Sagada MPS during the Holy Week excluding Easter Sunday.** Ferdie Cariño Castañeda
