LAGAWE, Ifugao(PIA) — Two municipalities of the province of Ifugao are placed under state of calamity due to the combined damages caused by the successive typhoons that hit Northern Luzon the past three weeks.
The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members of Asipulo and Tinoc passed resolutions placing their areas under state of calamity due to the damages on various infrastructure projects and agricultural crops by typhoons Kristine, Leon, Marce, Nika, and Pepito.
The Asipulo SB, in their Resolution No. 2024-220, noted the damages to public infrastructure, agriculture, livelihood, and dwellings as reported by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
There is a need to declare the municipality under the state of calamity to utilize the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the 5% MDRRM Fund for immediate relief and recovery from the adverse effects of Tropical Cyclone “Pepito” and other calamities, the resolution stated.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Tinoc also passed Resolution No. 2024-561 on November 19, 2024 declaring the municipality under state of calamity due to the effects of the recent typhoons on households, infrastructures, and agriculture.
The resolution stated that the past four typhoons had caused damages to main road networks that hamper transportation and delivery of agricultural products to market outside the municipality and losses of the business sector due to power outages due to damages on electric polls and lines.
With the declaration of a state of calamity, the barangay local government units can utilize the 30% quick response fund to rehabilitate and repair damages on infrastructure, agriculture and households in their respective barangays. **JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao
