The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) has recently approved 23 RA 7687 and one (1) RA 10612 graduate scholars under the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) from the Cordillera Administrative Region to be deployed in the region this year as Teacher I or Special Science Teacher I. One (1) RA 7687 graduate scholar will be deployed in Abra, three (3) in Apayao, three (3) in Baguio City, 13 in Benguet, three (3) in Kalinga; and one (1) RA 10612 graduate scholar will be deployed in Apayao.
The JLSS program is one of the DOST undergraduate scholarship programs for 3rd year college students, currently enrolled in priority S&T courses in accredited universities. This program covers three (3) types of scholarship namely RA 10612, RA 7687 and Merit. The RA 10612 aims to strengthen the country’s science and technology education by fast-tracking graduates in the sciences, mathematics and engineering who shall teach science and mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country.
Graduates of RA 10612 have to teach in senior high schools as their service obligation. These graduates are given priority for job placement to teach in Department of Education (DepEd) senior high schools in their home province as Special Science Teacher I under a provisional status. Moreover, they must have to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) within the first five (5) years if they opt to continue teaching in DepEd after completion of their service obligation. Meanwhile, graduates of the RA 7687 and Merit under this program are also accommodated as Teacher I in Junior High School but they must have passed the LET.
