WORLD WAR II LIBERATION OF BAGUIO -The city commemorated the World War II Liberation of Baguio through a sunrise ceremony at Burnham Park on April 27, 2023. The country’s historical turning point in the war happened in the city between February 21 to April 26, 1945. A ceremonial wreath laying was done at the start of the program by city officials, Surviving World War II veterans, post-war veterans, Baguio City Police Office Personnel, and members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Also present were Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) Manager Jacqueline Eman, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) Head Cherilyn Sabling, and representatives of the Sons and Daughters of Veterans Association.
The city government, represented by Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan with Congressman Marquez Go, and members of the Baguio City council presented a plaque of recognition for the heroism of Cpl. Ernesto C. Luis, Pvt. Epifanio L. Besuayan, and the 66th Infantry, USAFIP-NL during the war.**Photo by Neil Clark Ongchangco
