LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Some 439 child development workers (CDW) in this province received PHP5,000 cash assistance on Wednesday from the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
Totaling PHP2.195 million, the PSWDO cash assistance was given to CDWs from the 13 municipalities of this province.
CWDs are among the barangay workers who are given yearly financial assistance by the provincial LGU thru Ordinance 15-172 approved in June 2015.
“The amount serves as recognition of the barangay workers’ efforts in community building,” PSWDO head Juana Bannawe said.
Bannawe said that for the previous years, the number of CDWs in the province was divided into two groups, with each group receiving the cash assistance alternately.
This year, however, Gov. Melchor Diclas decided to give all the CDWs the assistance at the same time.
The provincial government’s cash assistance benefited 20 CDWs from Atok, 23 from Bakun, 37 from Bokod, 29 CDWs in Buguias, 45 CDWs in Itogon, 22 CDWs in Kapangan, 29 in Kibungan, 60 CDWs in the capital town of La Trinidad, 56 CDWs in Mankayan, eight CDWs in Sablan, 37 CDWs in Tuba and 28 CDWs in Tublay.
Diclas said he hopes “to increase the assistance for the CDWs if there is more fund because their job is really challenging and that they play an important role in community building”.
Bannawe said they had to go to the different municipalities to give the cash assistance “so the CWDs will no longer spend or go through the hassle of traveling to this capital town to places with Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)”.**By Pigeon Lobien (PNA)
