BAGUIO CITY, July 29 (PIA) — With the surge of cases the past days, the city is now on the second wave of COVID-19 cases.
Magalong said that the city already flattened the curve in June with decreased number of cases recorded. Case monitoring as of June 28 in Baguio City showed 46 total confirmed cases with 38 recovered and two deaths since March 2020.
However, there is now a resurgence in the city starting on the first week of this month. As of July 28, the city had 100 COVID-19 cases with 47 active, 51 recoveries and two deaths.
The City Health Office reported that at least 14 COVID-19 positive cases were recorded on July 25 and another 15 cases on July 26. These are the city’s highest numbers of infections recorded in a day since March.
Magalong explained that the city has been conducting expanded mass testing covering different sectors including those where people’s jobs involve exposure to other people and where some restrictions were eased for more economic activities. The rise in the number of case can also be attributed to the frequent travel of people to and from Baguio City including the coming back of OFWs and residents who were stranded somewhere. He said it was not due to lax border control.
Due to the surge of cases, the mayor announced stricter guidelines and reminded people anew to strictly observe the basic minimum health standards.
Magalong ordered the implementation of a stricter border control wherein only essential and necessary travels are allowed.
The general lockdown on Sundays will be re-implemented beginning August 2, including the closure of the Baguio Public Market for disinfection. The liquor ban was re-imposed from July 27 to August 9. The 10:00 PM to 4:00AM general curfew will also be imposed more firmly.
Religious services and gatherings will also be suspended on August 2 and 9.
The Mayor again reminded the public to strictly observe the minimum health standards such as the proper wearing of face masks, social distancing and observance of proper hygiene practices.** JDP/RMC- PIA-CAR
