BANGUED, Abra — From assembling lego toys to creating robotic pieces, Abrenian Meljon Viste went on to win awards in the 6th World Innovative Technology (WIT) Challenge 2019 in Griffith University, Gold Coast Australia.
Viste, a Grade 10 student of the Abra High School in this capital town, bagged the bronze award at the Symposium Category with his garbage collector and sorter (GCS-Bot), and a silver award in the Innovative Technology Category with his latest invention that is significant in disaster resiliency.
Viste was among the 18 Filipino students who represented the country at the WIT held on October 25 and 26 and participated in by more than 100 students from Taiwan, Thailand, Korea and Australia.
His GCS-Bot is equipped with sensors that enable the machine to determine a plastic or metal trash. He said that his inspiration for creating a robot that picks and sorts trash is the current state of environment.
“I want to help in the protection and conservation of our environment by developing more inventions with the aid of technology,” he stressed.
During the contest, Meljon said that the competition engineers and judges noted his works as “professionally done”.
His teammates and competitors were amazed by his inventions considering the remoteness of the province where he comes from.
Engr. John Viste, Meljon’s father, said that his son’s hobby is expensive but he fully supports to him by supplying all electronic materials that he needs.
Viste has represented the country in various robotics competitions overseas. Aside from the WIT, the recent competition he joined was the 5th World Robot Games in Pant hum Thani, Thailand last August 28-31 where he won third place in the Rugby Robot Games category. **JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra
