16 September 2019 – The city government recognized Baguio athletes for reaping medals in their respective competitions held recently.
Recognized during the flag raising program of the city on Monday, 16 September 2019, were taekwondo athletes Rama Chandra Liporada, Justin Cobe Macario for bagging a gold medal, respectively during the 2019 ASEAN Taekwondo Championships held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City earlier in May.
Also recognized were taekwondo bronze medalists Izech Brian Edwin, Maria Aljana Erece, Angelica Joyce Gaw, Xaphrine Paijhe Rivera and Tisha Cassandra Ulat.
Macario also brought home a silver medal from the 2019 Asian Junior and Cadet Taekwondo Championships held in Ahman, Jordan last July while Aesha Kiara Oglayon won a bronze medal in the same event.
Josiah Tristan Co bagged two gold medals during the 4th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand while Jenelyn Olsim won a silver medal during the 2019 International Federation of Muaythai Association World Championships also held in Bangkok.
Meanwhile, Hazel Ramirez ruled the Asia Auto Gymkhana Championships held in South Korea from August 31-September 1, 2019 landing first place in the Individual Knockout category and third place in Double Knockout category.
Helen Tallongen Aclopen (52 kgs.) won a bronze medal in 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships held in South Korea with another silver medal in the 2nd Southeast Asian Sambo Championship held in Kota Bandung, Indonesia together with Jedd Andre Kim (74 kgs) who won a silver medal in the same event.
City Ordinance No.20-2016 known as the “Baguio-based Athletes and Coaches Incentives and Benefits Ordinance” entitle athletes and their coaches to a cash price for every medal won in national and international sport competitions.
Gold medalists are entitled to receive P10,000, silver medalists – P5,000 and P3,000 for bronze medalists while coaches will be entitled to cash incentives amounting to P3,000, P2000 and P1,000, respectively.
Team events have a separate rate of cash incentive depending on the number of the team members including their coaches.** Jessa Mardy Samidan
