BAGUIO CITY– The female sector once again takes the center stage in March in celebration of Women’s Month as provided by Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988 to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in society.
This year’s celebration theme “We Make Change Work for Women”, specifically aims to inform and engage women as stakeholders of government programs and services; create and facilitate platforms to discuss good practices, gaps, challenges, and commitments in pursuing gender and development (GAD) – to strengthen implementation of the Magna Carta of Women and inspire and empower women and girls to be agents of change – to contribute in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of all women.
The 2018 Kababaihan Festival will be launched in a program on March 5 at 8:00AM at the City Hall grounds.
Highlight of the month-long celebration is on March 8 with the Women’s Day Program where the city’s 2018 Outstanding Women Leaders (OWLs) will be presented and awarded. A parade follows after the program at the PFVR Gym,
On March 7-23 will be the OWLs of Baguio first art competition and exhibit dubbed “My Concept of the Baguio Cordillera Woman” at the Baguio City National High School.
Two forums are set on March 13 – a forum on GAD and Magna Carta of Women (8-5pm) at the Baguio City Hall Multi-purpose Hall sponsored by the Young Women’s Initiative in coordination with the Office of Councilor Lilia Farinas, and a forum on the TRAIN Law at UP Baguio from 1-4pm by Innabuyog-Gabriela in cooperation with the University of the Philippines.
On March 23 will be a life skills orientation for teen mom advocates at the City Health Services Office from 1-5pm; also on the same d. ate will be a Socio-Cultural activities at the Baguio City Hall Multi-purpose hall from 1-5pm.
Other activities include a Zumba and One Billion Rising dance on March 27 to be held at Malcolm Square from 3:30to 4:30 pm. There will be a free papsmear, breast examination and pre-natal check-up in all district health centers from March 1-31.
Spearheading the city celebration is the Women’s Month Steering Committee led by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development.
