BAGUIO CITY December 28 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan challenged residents of the city to reform themselves this New Year to help the city achieve its goals and objectives of making the city a peaceful and orderly place to live, work, study and do business in.
The local chief executive exhorted that setting a good personal example is the best way to influence others to change their ways of life for the better, thus, everyone must start changing their attitude, behavior, and outlook in life so they will be able to set an example for others to emulate.
“Change should always start in ourselves. We can influence others to reform if they see we ourselves have changed our ways of life for the better, abandoned our vices, and are striving to improve our status in life without stepping on the toes of others,” Domogan stressed.
He pointed out vices such as smoking, drinking liquor, gambling among others will force people to find ways on how to sustain these. They may have to resort to illegal activities that will taint their reputation, if not their conviction for committing crimes,, thus the need to abandon such vices.
The mayor believes the best gift a person can give himself or herself for the New Year is to abandon these vices and focus on performing well in his or her profession that will bring about success and improve one’s resources.
By using or applying the message of Christmas which is peace, love, humility, sharing and caring, he claimed people can lessen their burden in life by forgiving and making peace with enemies and spreading love, sharing with and caring for those who are in need.
He explained a person can be a model for the members of his or her family by improving his or her ways of life and can serve as an example for the community to emulate.
Domogan asserted it is best for everyone to simply improve their ways in life to succeed in their respective endeavors and to help the city to improve its status as a highly-urbanized city.
He pointed out one can help the city improve its status by following simple rules and regulations such as by not smoking and littering in public places, observing traffic rules, and adhering to the rules and regulations promulgated by the city to instil discipline among the people.
He looks forward to the time when residents will be law-abiding citizens and make the city a place with highly disciplined and competitive people serving as a benchmark for other people in other places in the global village to follow and emulate.**By Dexter A. See
