BAGUIO CITY December 28 – The city government here will aggressively implement its priority development projects in 2017 to guarantee their completion within this administration’s term.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said the local government must start the rehabilitation of the city’s only Convention Center, the putting up of multi-level parking facilities in the Ganza parking area and the former site of the city auditorium, and the construction of the city’s integrated solid waste disposal facility and other major barangay road projects.
“We have to be aggressive in implementing our programmed development projects to solve most of the most pressing problems of our city. We have to complete our projects to improve our competitiveness in both the local and national levels,” Domogan stressed.
He underscored the importance of completing the city’s priority development projects this year because the local government was not able to put in place the various projects programmed in past years.
The mayor said providing residents and visitors with parking slots in the said multi-level parking facilities within the central business district will improve traffic and completion of the proposed city integrated solid waste disposal facility either in Antamok, Itogon, Benguet or in the Sto. Tomas School area by 2017 or 2018 will guarantee savings for the local government of more than P70 million which is the cost of hauling city waste to the sanitary landfill in Capas, Tarlac. The saved amount can then be used for additional development projects and services.
He explained a rehabilitated Baguio Convention Center will provide a better environment for organizers of events in the city.
Domogan expressed optimism that concerned government agencies will construct the proposed sewage treatment plant within the City Camp area and the rain harvesting facility within the Busol watershed to provide sustainable sources of potable water for city households.
He added that the completion of the city’s disaster risk reduction and management building and other major buildings of the local government will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government personnel in delivering the needed services to the people, especially to those who need assistance during natural calamities and emergency situations as the facilities will be a one-stop operation center to respond to all calls for help.**By Dexter A.
