BAGUIO CITY – Streets here would all be bright at night as the city government invested P112 million for its Light-Emitting Diode (LED) street lights project.
Engineer Richard Molina of the City Engineering Office (CEO) said they have already accomplished 30 percent work in replacing the traditional street lights, and that by the end of the year, all street lights in the city will all be LED.
The city government will save about 50 percent of its energy consumption costs, he said.
LED is one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technologies. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality.
Baguio City Police Director PCol. Allen Rae Co welcomed this development saying it is beneficial not only to the barangays but also to police personnel patrolling at night.
The brighter light will deter the occurrence of crimes and vehicular accidents during the night.
Lourdes Proper Punong Barangay Rowena Gelisanga thanked the city government for prioritizing the LED street light project, which according to her will entice the putting up of businesses in the locality. **JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR
