BAGUIO CITY – The Women’s Month celebration in the city of Baguio this year will kick-off on February 27, Monday during the regular flag raising ceremony at the Baguio City Hall grounds.
On March 1 will be a Kapihan at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall to thresh out the celebration with the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women”.
The theme calls for gender-balance in leadership and decision making positions as well as capacitating women and girls to reach their ambitions.
Said celebration will serve as a venue to highlight women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges and commitment.
Highlighting the celebration is the awarding of Outstanding Women leaders (OWLs) and special recognition to distinguished women which will be held on March 8 at the Baguio Convention Center.
After the awarding, there will be a grand parade followed by a march rally and program at the Igorot Park.
The OWLs will be treated to dinner on the same date.
On March 10, the Teen Health Forum will be sponsored by the health services office, Baguio Center for Young Adults and Save Our Women.
Socio-cultural activities like chorale, ethnic and folk dance competition and ethnic attire fashion show will be held at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall on March 29.
The Zumba for women and culminating activity will be held at the Engineer’s Hill covered court on March 30 sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-CAR.
On March 31, there will be an orientation to Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (JODA) members on the salient features of the Magna Carta for Women/Gender Based Violence and PWD Laws.
Other lined up activities are free papsmear, breast examination and pre-natal check-up; film showing of “BOSES” and lectures at the Department of Health Training Center.
A training on non-traditional livelihood for women particularly shoe repair and lady security guard will be sponsored by the Balikatan sa Kaunlaran, Inc.
There will also be seminars on gender sensitivity, practical skills training laws related to women and orientation on backyard gardening (Waste Management and Vermiculture) at the different barangays in the city.
The One Billion Rising is being conducted at the different barangays and offices until March 8.
