As human beings with hearts, we can’t help but root for the underdogs. When the little guy exceeds all expectations and managed to achieve the impossible it gets the heart pumping and the blood rolling in all humans. After all, seeing expectations broken in front of us reminds the people in our most dire times, we can get through this.
Anyone at some point in their lives, may have felt themselves to be underdogs up against a titan. And then the miracle just couldn’t happen. As a nation, we have witnessed the rise of the ultimate underdog right in front of our eyes. When a 5’5’’ Filipino boxer from the slums climbed up to the world stage and showed the heart of an underdog. With his ?sts and faith went and paved open a path for an entire country.
The Philippines is a small nation. Perhaps we will always be labeled as an underdog when going on to the world stage. But the heart of a Filipino is strong and that has never stopped our ?ag from competing with the powerhouses of the world.
The view from beneath can be tiring for anyone, there is always ambition within us, and a well cannot hope to contain it. The frog must jump up and go see the world. See what this planet has to offer and all the different creatures that inhabit it.
When we eventually reach the top and grasp that elusive dream, many of us wonder what that would feel like. Would it be pure euphoria?
Not everyone will be content with being the underdog. And it does feel nice for a change to have the positions reversed.
But with a shallow character, pride quickly burgeons and poison seeps in the head. I’m sure many of us have felt the speed of which karma can quickly come back to bite us.
In any era, arrogance is a terrible enemy to face, more so when it is close to our side.**
As a nation that was massively looked down upon by colonizers in the past, we are in no position to be looking down on our fellow compatriots. Though they have left many things in our nation, arrogance against other people should be left in the past. And a character of humility is a great companion along with our ambition to trek into the future as a nation.**
