LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — Dengue cases in the province continue to rise and the public is constantly reminded to ensure cleanliness of its surroundings to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Provincial Health Officer 1 Dr. Meliarazon Dulay said that all the municipalities in Benguet have increase of dengue cases this year. From January 1 to July 30, 2022, Benguet recorded 2,357 dengue cases or 430 percent increase compared to 445 dengue cases recorded on the same period last year.
La Trinidad recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year with 774, followed by Itogon with at 500 cases and Bokod with 350 cases.
Bokod logged the highest increase with 350 this year compared to the two cases reported last year. Buguias which has three cases last year recorded 136 this year, while Atok has 65 cases now up from three for the same period last year.
For the other municipalities, Bakun has 18 cases, Tublay with 63, Kibungan with 35, and Sablan with 25. These towns recorded single digit cases in 2021.
Mankayan has 105 cases, Kabayan with 103, Kapangan with 52, and Tuba with 131 cases.
There were also four death cases due to dengue- two each in La Trinidad and Tuba.
The PHO is constantly reminding the public to maintain cleanliness and practice the 5S strategy to prevent dengue and other diseases amidst the spike of cases.
The 5S strategy involves search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; uphold self-protection like using insect repellents and wearing long sleeves and pants; seek early consultation at the neatest health care facility; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration.
Dulay reiterated that those who feel the signs and symptoms of dengue fever like abdominal pain or tenderness, persistent vomiting, edema, mucosal bleeding and lack of energy to immediately seek medical consultation. **JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
