BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA)—Government agencies have joined forces to enforce road clearing operations in the province to ensure the safety of motorists and the pedestrians, and free flow of traffic.
Last August 18, the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office(MPPPO) with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Provincial Government, municipal and barangay local government units, Departmwnt of Public Works and Highways, Land Transportation Office, Highway Patrol Group, Bureau of Fire Protection, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams and other partner agencies simultaneously conducted clearing operations along the different roads of the province.
Illegally parked vehicles were given citation tickets, eroded soils and debris were cleaned, and other obstructions were removed. Vendors displaying their wares on the road side were advised to move out.
The road clearing activity is in line with DILG Memorandum Circular 2020-027 or the Continued Implementation of the Presidential Directive to Clear Roads of Illegal Obstructions, Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Rules, and municipal traffic ordinances.
It also forms part of the “Project: Safe Road Trip” of MPPPO to prevent, decrease and stop road crash incidents in the province.
Through this operation, aside from ensuring safety of the motorists and pedestrians, and minimizing traffic congestion, authorities can identify vehicle owners who are not abiding with traffic the rules and regulations , or are repeat violators of traffic laws. It can even help in the recovery of stolen motor vehicles.
The joint teams will be conducting the road clearing operation every third week of the month.
