March 31, 2025 – Celebrating the significant commemoration of Mountain Province, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Cordillera Administrative Region (BFAR-CAR) joined the opening festivities of said province’s 58th Founding Anniversary and the 18th Lang-Ay Festival. To support the celebration, the bureau attended through the Provincial Fisheries Office led by Ms. Olive Jet M. Garcia, representing Regional Director Lois June B. Fermin at the event.
This year’s celebration, themed “MP@58: Honoring Traditions and Reaching Greater Heights,” emphasized the province’s cultural heritage while embracing progress and innovation. The festivities commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by the traditional blessing called “Tekwab” performed by local elders. The program included speeches from key officials and the opening of the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, showcasing the province’s agricultural and economic sectors.
Mountain Province farmers and producers were recognized for their contributions, with exhibits featuring fresh produce, locally crafted goods, and innovative agricultural technologies promoting sustainable farming practices. Atty. Cyprine Maxcel Dalog-Duclan, speaking on behalf of Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr., underscored the significance of community bonds and cultural preservation.
Supervising Trade and Industry Development Specialist Edwin Bagano, Jr., representing DTI-CAR Regional Director Raymond G. Panhon, highlighted Lang-Ay’s role in fostering unity and economic resilience. He emphasized DTI-CAR’s commitment to circular economies aimed at reducing environmental impact and supporting local businesses.
Board Member Ezra Samson A. Gomez, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, officially opened the Agri-Industrial Trade Fair, noting its role in economic development and community cooperation. The event focused on market access, farmer empowerment through technology, and sustainable agricultural practices.
BFAR-CAR set a booth at the fair, while the Ilaglakhan Livelihood Organization sold seafood products during the Seafood Kadiwa ng Pangulo, promoting fisheries and other seafood trade.
Various representatives from national government agencies, local officials, employees from provincial and municipal government units, visitors, and other distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony.
