BAGUIO CITY – A known big-time drug trader voluntarily surrendered to the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) on Monday afternoon, after several days of pursuit operations.
Accompanied by a relative, Abdul Raman Abdullahi, an alleged big-time drug trader here, and in nearby provinces in the low lands surrendered to Col. Allen Rae Co, BCPO director.
Co said prior to the surrender, Abdullahi was on the run for days after a failed buy-bust of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Thursday in Barangay Aurora Hill.
The operation led to a brief gunfight, with Abdullahi escaping.
Abdullahi told reporters that he decided to surrender for his own safety after he was considered by government agents dangerous and armed.
In a statement, he denied having fired at the government agents during the operation.
“You did the right decision,” Co told Abdullahi, with the media present during the press following his surrender.
Aside from his safety, the surrenderer said he also wanted to clear his name of the rape charges and violation of the Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act that was earlier filed against him.
Before his commitment to the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm (BCJMD), Abdullahi underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Abdullahi will be locked-up alone in a cell while waiting for the result of his PCR test result.
Since March, swab testing has become a mandatory health protocol of the Baguio City jail as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of the dreaded diseases among inmates. **By Dionisio Dennis, Jr. (PNA)
