Bontoc, Mountain Province – Two members of the Philippine contingent for the 31st South East Asian Games who trace their roots in this municipality were recognized by the people and officialdom here and received cash incentives from the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU).
With this, the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan passed a resolution acknowledging and commending April Joy La Madrid and Helen Aclopen who were members of the Philippine contingent for the 31st South East Asian Games held in Hanoi, Vietnam last May 12-23, 2022.
La Madrid who hails from Barangay Talubin, Bontoc Mountain Province brought home a bronze medal in the Muay Thai – Women’s Combat 60kg event held in Vinh Phuc Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, Aclopen who traces her roots in Barangay Dalican, Bontoc, Mountain Province represented the country for the Kurash women’s -48kg division and copped a silver medal after winning over Thailand’s Duangdara Kumlert and Myanmar’s Khin Khin Su at the Hoai Duc Gymnasium.
Per Resolution No. 460 series of 2022, the two contingents from Bontoc did not only inspire many young Filipinos to develop a keen interest in sports but have also shown the world the spirit of Ifontok physical prowess, sports competitiveness, and overall athletic quality.
Further, the Bontoc Local Government Unit awarded a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize amounting to 10,000.00 to La Madrid and 20,000.00 to Aclopen for bringing honor and pride to the country and municipality.
Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey commended the two athletes for their commitment, enthusiasm, and perseverance in sports.
“On behalf of the people and officialdom of Bontoc, I extend my warmest congratulations on your well-deserved achievement during the Seagames. Kudos to both of you,” he said.
The resolution, certificate, and cash prize were given during the regular Monday Flag Raising Ceremony at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol, today, June 13, 2022.
