BAGUIO CITY – In its final situational report to Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Department of Interior and Local Government city director Evelyn Trinidad on the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) affecting the Summer Capital, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) disaster operations center has lowered its status to white alert and encouraging all barangay disaster risk reduction management committees to activate their respective operation centers.
Dated August 18, 2018, it states that the city engineers office, city environment and parks management office and other city government offices engaged in emergency and disaster response are on standby or on-call including the Baguio city emergency medical services, fire department, police office and Red Cross-Baguio chapter to provide efficient and effective emergency response.
The city social welfare and development office is still activated to facilitate effective and efficient provision of assistance to affected families while the health services office and all district health centers are required to accommodate clients and have complete provision of necessary resources, essential medicines and appropriate number of personnel.
AFP units based here including reservists, civic action, communication and rescue groups are on standby (on-call) to assist the CDRRMC in emergency response including the 14th RCDG Army Reserve and 21st PAF reserve group.
The report states that the Department of Education city school division’s disaster risk reduction management council has been on standby since August 9, this year.
Reported incidences attended to by the CDRRMO emergency operations center starting August 9 include vehicle accidents, request for medical assistance, eroded riprap, flooding, trees about to fall, fallen trees, busted water pipe, soil erosion, collapsed wall, minor electrical injuries, and more.
Domogan noted that no major incidences have occurred so far in the city during the habagat as he expressed satisfaction with the overall response of the CDRRMC and their barangay counterparts in dealing with emergencies.
He also hopes that the final phase of the new multi-story CDRRMC building at the Motorpool, City Camp barangay can be completed so that even more evacuees can be accommodated during calamities and trainings conducted.-gaby keith
