BAGUIO CITY– Rep. Mark Go and Vice Mayor Edison Bilog led other local officials in formally launching the city’s 25th National Children’s Month Celebration during the flag-raising rites at City Hall.
Councilor Lilia Farinas, chair of the city council’s committee on social services, women and urban poor, said this year’s theme, “Bata: Iligtas Sa Droga”, is very proper since the city will also be observing Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week this month.
She said that government and other sectors of society should get together to create measures that would encourage children towards worthy goals and get them away from the lure of illegal drugs.
“Let us be vigilant and do what we can to save our children. We don’t want their future to be dark and deadly because of drugs. Let us do whatever we can to make it a little brighter for them. Drugs is a vicious, cunning enemy and the war on drugs is a difficult one. But if we all get involved in fostering solutions and measures to combat illegal drugs, then I don’t see why we cannot win,” Farinas stressed.
