BAGUIO CITY – The city council passed a total of 148 resolutions, 49 ordinances and conducted 14 public consultations since November 19 last year according to councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. during Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall before local officials led by Congressman Mark Go, employees and guests.
He said the approved ordinances include a measure limiting the speed of cars and motorcycles in the city aimed at protecting the life and limb of motorists and general public; an ordinance creating guidelines for the implementation of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations, a Department of Social Welfare and Development program that gives financial, medical and psychological assistance to indigent families, abused or abandoned children, victims of human trafficking and others in need.
Another ordinance passed by the august body during the five-month period proclaims October 17 to 23 as “National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty” since one of the government’s main goal is to eliminate poverty, Yangot explained.
He said the approved resolutions include a measure requesting the city schools division to include recollections, retreats and other activities in the school curriculum that molds the character of students, enhances their spiritual development and teaches values formation; a resolution ordering barangay officials to put-up a multi-purpose community playground in their respective barangays and create programs that encourage young people to engage in traditional Philippine games.
Another approved resolution is requesting the Department of Labor and Employment to set-up a complaint desk at City Hall aimed at providing a venue for government workers to air their grievances or problems that are adversely affecting their performance at work.
Yangot said there are 42 proposed ordinances and 21 proposed resolutions that could still be approved by the local legislature in the succeeding months.
He is confident that officials and staff of the legislative branch will continue to work hard in finding solutions to the various problems being faced by the city and its residents.**gaby keith
