The city government is updating its Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), a five-year master plan designed to organize and improve public land transport services based on actual passenger demand.
City Engineer Richard Lardizabal said the updating process was discussed during a coordination meeting with the technical team of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Central Office on October 9, 2026.
The LPTRP serves as a guide for planning and rationalizing public transport routes to ensure that services respond to commuters’ needs. It aims to develop a sustainable and efficient local public transport system.
During the meeting, the timeline of activities and their respective responsibilities were set.The LTFRB Central Office will deploy enumerators to conduct data gathering, process the collected information and prepare and finalize the LPTRP report.
The LTFRB Regional Office, meanwhile, will inform public utility jeepney (PUJ) cooperatives about the planned surveys and data-gathering activities.
The City Engineering Office will provide additional enumerators, transportation and logistical support to assist the LTFRB team.
Data gathering is scheduled from October 11 to 30, 2026, while the preparation and presentation of the report are targeted for November 4 to 20, 2026.
The updated plan is expected to provide a basis for improving public transport routes and services in response to the city’s commuting needs.
Lardizabal thanked the LTFRB team for prioritizing Baguio as one of the first batch of cities scheduled for the LPTRP updating.**Aileen P. Refuerzo
