BAGUIO CITY – The City Veterinary Office (CVO) has inspected a total of 578,078 animals here last year including hogs, cattle, goat, carabao and chicken that were found to be fit and safe for human consumption. The number of head inspected represent a 15 percent increase as compared to 2015.
A total of 8,962.635 tons of fish were also inspected and found to be clean, safe and fit for human consumption in 2016 or lower by 5.4 percent as compared to 2015.
City veterinarian Brigit Piok said 24,719.4 kilograms of meat and by-products were condemned, confiscated and properly disposed in the city last year.
“The volume of animals, meat, chicken and by-products inspected slightly increased last year due to the increasing demand driven by the growing population of the city,” she explained.
On its abbatoir services, the CVO slaughtered 113,219 head of animals in 2016 including hogs, cattle, carabao, and goat or an increase of 2.7 percent as compared to 2015.
Piok stressed that the facilities of the city’s slaughterhouse is being improved and rehabilitated to conform with “A” National Meat Inspection Services standards to improve her office’s delivery of abattoir services.
The CVO generated P17,050,717 of revenues last year from all of its services or an increase of 6.39 percent as compared to revenues earned in 2015.** gaby keith and denver ebba (pio intern)
