BAGUIO CITY — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is reminding candidates that the start of the election period is not yet the start of the campaign season.
“Election period pa lang, hindi pa po to start ng campaign period,” COMELEC-Cordillera Regional Director Julius Torres said in an interview.
While the election period started nationwide last January 13 and will end on June 12, 2019, the campaign period is from February 12 to May 11, 2019.
Campaign period for national candidates begins on February 12, while the campaign period for local bets starts on March 29, Torres reminded.
During the campaign period to the Election Day on May 13, 2019, COMELEC reminds candidates that among the prohibited acts include the giving of donations/gifts in cash or in kind by candidates, treasurers of parties, or their agents for any structure for public use or for the use of any religious or civic organization.
Torres also reiterates that implementation of the gun ban or the bearing of firearms or other deadly weapons, unless authorized by the COMELEC is now in effect with the start of the election period.
Other prohibited acts during the election period include the alteration of the territory of a precinct or the establishment of a new precinct; transfer or movement of officers and employees in the civil service; use of security personnel/bodyguards by candidates, unless authorized by the COMELEC; Organization of reaction forces, strike forces, and the suspension of elective local officials. **JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
