BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) Response Cluster led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, in close coordination with the Office of Civil Defense, steps up operations to respond to the needs of the communities affected by super typhoon Egay.
DSWD – Cordillera Regional Director Leo Quintilla convened a blended meeting on Thursday (July 27) to plan and coordinate response efforts for the typhoon-affected population in the region especially in the provinces of Abra and Apayao.
Quintilla outlined the need to coordinate and check the needs of the community, as well as to calibrate and harmonize the different actions of the RDRRMC Response Cluster member- agencies.

Based on the DSWD – CAR data, as of 6am of July 28, there are 49,345 families or 189,815 individuals in 381 barangays in Baguio City and in the six provinces that were affected by the onslaught of Egay.
Of the affected population 517 families or 1,795 were served inside the 75 open evacuation centers all over the region while 987 families or 3,667 were served outside evacuation centers.
There were also 64 fully damaged houses and 1,455 partially damaged houses recorded, mostly in the province of Abra.
Numerous road closures due to landslide and fallen trees were also recorded as well as power outages caused by fallen trees or toppled electric poles, among others.
The Response Cluster hub was earlier activated along with a virtual platform for continuous updating of response operations and immediate concerns that need to be addressed.
In the meeting, the Response Cluster member- agencies presented their monitoring report and response actions being undertaken.
The DSWD – CAR already provided around P684,301 worth of Family Food Packs and Non – Food Items to the affected population.
In addition, 10,000 FFPs from the DSWD Central Office were also delivered to Apayao while another 5,000 FFPs from the DSWD – CAR Regional Warehouse were delivered to Abra to augment relief operations.
Road clearing operations of national roads with the Department of Public Works and Highways – CAR in the lead are ongoing.
Law enforcement agencies and local government units are also assisting in search and rescue operations, community clean – up and in clearing landslides.
The Department of Information and Communication Technology- CAR which leads the Emergency Tele-Communication sub – cluster, has brought a team to Abra to look into connectivity concerns.
Also reporting their respective activities were the OCD, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Police Regional Office – Cordillera, Philippine Army 503rd Brigade, Tactical Operations Group 1, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development and Philippine Information Agency.
With torrential rains and intense winds for two nights and days, super typhoon Egay caused rivers and waterways to swell causing flooding in communities along riverbanks and other low- lying areas, and mountains and other lands saturated causing soil erosions and landslides.
