BAGUIO CITY (PIA)–The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is encouraging Cordillerans to apply for next year’s arts and culture projects.
NCCA Plan Policy Formulation and Programming Division Chief Ferdinand Isleta in a recent online press briefing, invited groups and individuals in the region to apply for projects as the NCCA is now accepting project proposals for the 2022 Competitive Grants Program.
Republic Act 7356 authorizes the Commission to give grants to artists and cultural groups which contribute significantly to the Filipino’s cultural legacy as means to encourage artistic achievement.
Isleta said that the NCCA, through the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA), continues to provide financial and technical assistance to civil society organizations, people’s organizations, indigenous peoples organizations, individuals, local government units, government agencies, state universities/colleges and public schools through its NCCA Grants Program, and Institutional Programs (NCCA Outreach Program, Resource Person’s Bureau, Technical Assistance Program).
The NCCA Grants Program is anchored on the Commission’s vision of Filipinos with a strong sense of nationhood and deep respect for cultural diversity and aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 20217-2022, Chapter 7 on Culture or Promoting Philippine Culture and Values towards Bayanihan).
The NCCA Competitive Grants Program is competitive in nature since the approval of project proposals pass through a rigorous and confidential evaluation process based on merit such as quality and relevance to priorities of the Commission.
Projects may be categorized per subcommissions—Subcommission on the Arts, Subcommission on Cultural Heritage, Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination, and Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts.
Isleta said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCCA made a research to determine the challenges and needs of artists and cultural workers for a cultural resiliency response program.
“Iyong grants namin this year ay kinonsider talaga namin iyong mga pangangailangan ng mga artists at cultural workers sa panahon ng pandemya at the same time kung papaano maka contribute din iyong mga project partners para sa kinahaharap nating pandemya ngayon” (For the grants offered by the NCCA this year, we considered the needs of the artists and cultural workers during this time of the pandemic, and at the same time how the project partners could contribute in this pandemic), Isleta said.
