As June starts creeping up, the typhoons return and meet the familiar sight they have been seing for decades. Non-existent or dilapidated flood control facilities. Homes that are supposed to be shielded are left exposed against mother nature.
Some time has passed since the big protests, but here we are again. Typhoon season is coming up and the ordinary Filipino is not at all equipped or properly shielded. Again we will see children drown because of floods on our screens. Houses will again be destroyed and so many will have their lives uprooted.
Meanwhile, the big fishes of the scandal swim freely. The actual accountability drowned out by further crisis and cries of suffering.
With leaders who like to travel, especially during typhoon season, the same people will be left alone. All while their elected leaders enjoy the sunshine continents away.
The spark from the flood control scandal has been stunted. Till the people are victorious and their anger converted to something more than shouting, the guilty will quietly go an about their lives and the cycle of tragedies and corruption repeats itself. **
