CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga– The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is now accepting applications for the Government Internship Program (GIP).
Dr. Alexander Gumabol, provincial DOLE head, said Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang has allocated P4 million from his development initiative in Congress for the employment of more than 100 GIPs who will be paid a daily wage of 75% of the prevailing regional minimum wage. The fund is expected to be downloaded soon so work can start May this year.
Gumabol said this acceleration program of DOLE in partnership with the Office of the Congressman aims to employ preferably fresh graduates for them to gain experience in preparation for permanent employment. Applicants are advised to present complete documents.
In another development, the Public Employment Service Offices (PESO) in the province are also accepting applicants for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES). There are already approved pledges from 10 employers, namely, the local government units of Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pinukpuk, Rizal, Tanudan, and Tinglayan; the provincial LGU, Kalinga Academy, Kalinga Colleges of Science and Technology, and St. Theresita’s School, Inc.
Gumabol said DOLE appropriated P5.3 million for this program with counterparts from partner employers in the public and private sector. Students employed under SPES will be paid a wage rate prescribed by the Department of Budget and Management.
“Depending on the income class of local government units and capability of private employers, it could be seen in the province that daily wage is between the range of P280.00 to P477.73 or a revised ratio of 60-40, 50-50, and 40-60 sharing between DOLE and the employer,” Gumabol explained.
Students hired under SPES will work during the summer months or a minimum of 20 days and a maximum of 52 days. **PIA Kalinga
