There was a time when warring mafia families were killing each other in New York. Corpses of the “soldiers” of the families involved were being found here and there.
Here is the good thing. As commented by one writer in an international magazine, the killings were saving the government a lot of money and effort. For the state was being cleaned up for free by the thugs or syndicated criminals themselves.
Can we say the same thing with respect to the feud between the Marcoses and the Dutertes?
One of the biggest problems of our beloved country is its being run by political dynasties. Monopolizing political power in the hands of political dynasties always led to exploitation of the people and their impoverishment. Most of the people don’t realize their sorry conditions are being caused by our allowing political dynasties to thrive and perpetuate themselves. This results in economic and political power ending up in the hands of a few and their cronies.
Such concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few always ends up in glaring inequalities in the distribution of the nation’s wealth. In our beloved country, for instance, not even 10 extended families control about 90% of the nation’s riches, leaving more than 90% of the people living on mere crumbs.
Ironically, it is us the poor guys who are the avid supporters of the warring families. We, ignorantly, compose the cheering squads.
We, as a nation, would be much better off without the political dynasties. They are the causes of most of our problems.
So, will it be a boon for us if the warring families started shooting each other or sending their members to jail?
The answer is a no-brainer.
For sure, such scenario will result in some profound changes. But we have proven time and again we are a failure in capitalizing on such eventuality for the betterment of the general populace.**
