El Niño is soon upon us and the people are expected to survive on the bare minimum. Store rainwaters on buckets, filter waters to make them drinkable, reuse water, and just survive on your own. That is what is expected for ordinary folks. Christmas may be coming but it is expected for the people to further lower their bar for standards and further degrade themselves.
Water prices will certainly sky rocket and that only means record high profits for many companies. As Filipinos continue their back breaking work, they will have more to deal with as they worry about rationing water.
This is our current state as a nation. There are no permanent solutions because they prefer it to stay this way, a nation of impunity and where its citizens are exploited to their dying breaths. Even during the holidays, where happiness is easier to find, people will be rationing, living like they are in survival mode all for the sake of rich men getting richer.
The infuriating situation is when they continue their campaign of teaching their citizens to ration water like they are living in an apocalypse while they themselves swim in their private swimming pools. That is not a mere notion but events that easily fit with the current state of this nation.
As Filipinos ration and worry about tomorrow, don’t expect our leaders to do the same but hoard and waste in excess like they have always done, nothing has happened in this year that indicates this time will be different. **
