Boys and girls are supposed to be equal. That is what we have been taught. However, we can’t deny our patriarchal society that remains pervasive to this day. Men hold a dominant power over women in all areas of society. Including our own homes.
We don’t need boys growing up while looking down on women, to have a mindset that convinces them of others’ inferiority and their value being higher than others. A foundation that leads to them thinking of their right to abuse women in the future.
Girls should not be forced into kitchens and to be brainwashed into thinking their roles are limited to simply being mothers and obeying men. Support them just as much as the first born or the youngest son. Instill in them a strong mindset of independence and not one of servitude. Nourish their ambitions instead of cutting these down for the sake of traditional values.
Teach our children that the responsibilities in the home are shared by all. That both boys and girls can cook and clean, fix the car, paint the home, and share the duty of taking care of ailing parents.
A patriarchal society is one built on inequality. And while it continues to exist, women suffer and men get away with it.**
