BAGUIO CITY – In compliance with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) national headquarters orders on fire prevention month activities focusing on safety awareness, the Baguio office launched community-based undertakings last week.
Manuel Roxas and Aurora Bueno Elementary School pupils underwent fire and earthquake drill and fire safety orientation with University of the Cordilleras (UC-MAPEH) having basic water safety training, all done last week.
Magsaysay National High School (MNHS) are scheduled for a fire and earthquake drill Monday, March 6, while daycare pupils of upper Quirino Magsaysay will visit the fire station for an orientation with fire officials, Tuesday, March 7.
A fire and earthquake safety orientation and drill will be conducted for business establishment Savemore employees on the same day.
Still on March 7 is a scheduled fire prevention games and contest; with drawing contests for elementary pupils; and poster-making and essay writing for high school students. A singing contest for BFP personnel may be conducted.
On March 9, nursing students of the Easter College will undergo Basic High Angle Rescue training; as with the UC-CCJE students, on March 10.
Even the church, the Diocese of Baguio staff will undergo fire safety orientation and basic first aid training on March 17.
Other groups and establishments, John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC) and EGI Albergo di Ferroca Condominium Corp. requested assistance in the organization of volunteer fire brigades, while Veterans’ Bank, Moldex Residences and local television ABS-CBN Baguio are scheduled for fire safety orientation and drill.
A takbo at sayaw (Run and Zumba/Dance) laban sa sunog may be scheduled by the local BFP office.
In a schedule released by BFP director Bobby Baruelo to local offices, a “Walk for a Fire-free and a Fire-Safe Nation,” in coordination with volunteers, public servants, non-government organizations, students, professionals and firefighters will be conducted. Fire chief Fernando Bangyod heads the walk with participants on March 8, Wednesday.
Television and radio guestings, lectures on fire prevention and safety during Ugnayan Sa Barangay, inspection of all establishments, testing of fire hydrants, emergency evacuation planning, fire drill, monitoring of all hazard operations will also conducted for the whole fire prevention month.
Identification of fire prone areas and conduct of pre-fire planning for areas identified may be done. A house-to house fire safety information campaign may also be conducted, it was known.
The culminating ceremony will be on March 31, with awarding of prizes and display in local BFP offices nationwide.
