The Baguio Horror Festival has met with such fierce resistance that one wonders where is that same attitude towards the prevalence of gambling in the city and larger scale of the state of the Filipino people. Large tarpaulins advertising gambling entities can be seen by people of all ages. In Session Road where so many people pass through, one is greeted by a gambling cat. Jueteng on the roadside can also be seen so commonly you can hear people loudly lay down their money as you walk.
Christian values cannot just be used to fight back against specific events or persons you personally do not like. If one is truly of Christian values then there are so many horrific parts of the city that deserve more scrutiny than a mere festival. The fact that the red light district still exists and so many women are forced or trafficked towards prostitution is actual horror. Students being mutilated and bullied is horror. The suicide rates inside the city is horror.
Christian values are being weaponized and used against easy targets that are scapegoated. There are far more glaring things in this city and our world that deserve this misdirected anger. Attacking a mere festival but ignoring the truly horrific things that Filipinos are subjected to everyday is hypocrisy. **
