BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — Malacañang has declared July 15 a special non-working holiday in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 250 declaring July 15, 2023, Saturday, as a special non-working day in the CAR marking the 36th foundation anniversary of the region.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Cordillera Administrative Region be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation reads.
To commemorate the foundation year, the Regional Development Council thru the Committee on Indigenous People’s Concerns(CIPC) with the host province of Apayaoset various activities which will run for the whole month of July.
RDC Chairperson and Apayao Governor Elias Bulut Jr. with CIPC Chairperson Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples – Cordillera Regional Director Atanacio Addog will spearhead the celebration with a kick off ceremony at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center on July 1.
On July 15, contingents from the different provinces and cities in the region will gather in Apayao for the main program and celebration with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as the invited guest of honor and speaker.
Other lined up activities for the Cordillera Month celebration include the symbolic tree planting activities, the Cordillera Unity Gong Relay which will be held in the provinces, the search for the Mr. and Miss Cordillera Youth Ambassadors for Autonomy, and the culmination program which also will highlighted with the State of the Region Address.
Various activities such as forums, webinars and other information education communication campaign on Cordillera autonomy and development will be spearheaded by the different government agencies, state colleges and universities, private sector and other organizations.**JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
