CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – – The province of Kalinga continues to shine in the field of agriculture bagging the coveted Department of Agriculture’s 2018 National Rice Achiever Award – Outstanding Province Category
Kalinga won the award together with Zamboanga Sibugay from the four finalists. There were 22 provinces nominated to the national search.
The search evaluation covered the period 2017.
Joe Casibang, Provincial Rice Program Coordinator, informed that aside from a plaque of recognition, the province also will receive P4 million for agriculture-support projects.
This is the third time that Kalinga won the prestigious award. Kalinga bagged the same award in 2012 and 2013.
Another big winner this year is Tabuk City under the Outstanding City Category with an incentive of P1M.
Casibang also announced that 11 out of the 16 Outstanding Agricultural Extension Workers from the Cordillera Region are from Kalinga. The 11 led by Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan will get a cash incentive of P25,000 each.
The awarding ceremony is scheduled on May 30 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
DA launched the search in 2011 to capture the impact of its rice program interventions towards achieving national rice sufficiency.
